Y-CITYSCI Summer Plans with the Beet Box

Y-CITYSCI Summer Plans with the Beet Box

Today’s blog post is brought to you by Sami Murphy.

The Y-CITYSCI team has created a series of activities for you to participate in over the summer. Throughout the summer you can go to the Madison County Beet Box stop at Soup n Share to pick up the one-pager activity for that week. If you are not able to make it to the BeetBox stop, do not worry! You can always find the one-pager, here, on our blog as well. We will have a new one-pager at the BeetBox stop every other week.

Each of these one-pagers contains an at home activity that is centered around a citizen science app. These one-pagers will walk you through how to use the app, how to get it, and why you should use it. At the end of each one-pager is a challenge from the Y-CITYSCI team. If you complete the challenge and send your response to us via direct message on Instagram, you will receive a prize and be featured on our Instagram page! After each one-pager is handed out, other app related questions will be added to our Instagram story throughout the following week. Respond to these questions to have a chance to win additional prizes!

The first one-pager will be with the Beet Box on July 1st! The first one-pager will be about the app Spider Spotter. Throughout the summer one-pagers will be handed out about Cicada Safari, iNaturalist, Globe Index – Land Cover, Tea Bag Index, and Star Spotting.

Make sure to follow us on Instagram at @YCITYSCI so that you don’t miss the activities! You might even run into some Y-CITYSCI team members handing out the one-pager activities at the Beet Box throughout the summer. Don’t forget to say hi!
