The STEM Center would like to welcome one of our new graduate students, Olivia!
Hello, my name is Olivia. I am a graduate assistant in SIUE’s STEM Center working on the Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA). I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). As a graduate assistant for SEPA, I have been assisting with the development of PhotoVoice activities, and I will be mentoring the students during each activity. I am also co-running the SEPA blog.
I grew up on a small dairy farm in Northwestern Illinois. Working on the farm, I gained appreciation for all the nutrients in the soil that foster plant growth and development. I love spending time in my environment. I enjoy running, walking, biking, swimming, hiking, and gardening! I am particularly interested in protecting my environment through food sustainability practices. While working on the farm, I grow my own vegetables and minimize my food waste. I have spent the last two summers managing a ‘food to table’ garden for my uncle’s restaurant. I hope to expand this practice through the development of community gardens in the surrounding area.
